Technique & Recovery
Breast augmentation is usually completed in about an hour under general anesthesia, through incisions placed to minimize visible scarring (most commonly along the lower breast fold). Most patients return to desk work within 5 to 7 days, though strenuous exercise and heavy lifting wait 4 to 6 weeks while tissue settles into its final position, a process called "drop and fluff" that continues for up to three months.
It's important to understand that a breast implant alone does not lift sagging breasts; it only adds volume. When some degree of sagging (ptosis) is present, the lift comes from the incision technique itself, not the implant. Dr. Fabio uses three main incision types depending on how much correction is needed: the infra-areolar incision, placed just below the areola; the periareolar incision, which goes all the way around the areola's edge; and the crescent incision, a partial cut along the top of the areola, used for milder sagging. When more lift is needed, an internal mastopexy is performed, creating an internal "bra" effect by releasing the breast gland from the pectoral muscle and fixing it higher, correcting the ptosis in a way a breast implant alone usually cannot.
